Waalitj Hub Joint Venture Workshops

National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) and the Waalitj Hub have partnered with the Australian Institute of Management Western Australia (AIM WA) to design and develop the Indigenous Joint Ventures Workshops to provide Indigenous entrepreneurs with knowledge and strategies to deliver better outcomes for themselves through commercial Joint Ventures.

The one-day workshops are being run on different dates both in-person in Perth and also virtually. Here is a list of all the workshops with more details below:

Prospective Indigenous Joint Ventures Workshop:

This one-day workshop is tailored towards Indigenous Entrepreneurs looking at establishing a joint venture with non-Indigenous parties.

The workshop will cover:

  • An introduction to JV's
  • Why enter a JV - benefits and risks?
  • Types of JV arrangements
  • Business relationships, balance of power and code of behaviour
  • Black cladding issues
  • Questions to ask of and about your potential JV partner
  • Principles of good governance in JV arrangements
  • Negotiating the terms and conditions

Learning outcomes:

  • Decide if a JV arrangement is the right option for your business
  • Evaluate if there is alignment of values and expectations with your potential JV partner
  • Begin to understand and build the foundations for a JV partnership through good governance
  • Identify the threats and opportunities in a case study demonstrating an actual JV arrangement
  • Know when, where and how to seek further advice and support

Existing Indigenous Joint Ventures Workshop:

This one-day workshop is tailored towards Indigenous Entrepreneurs in existing joint venture arrangements.

The workshop will cover:

  • Criteria for evaluating your JV
  • Types of JV arrangements
  • Questions to ask of and about your JV partner
  • Business relationships, balance of power and code of behaviour
  • Black cladding issue
  • Principles of good governance in JV arrangements
  • Roles and responsibilities of Directors, Management and Shareholders
  • Introduction to financial statements for Directors
  • Re-negotiating the terms and conditions of your JV

Learning outcomes:

  • Decide if a JV arrangement is the right option for your business
  • Evaluate if there is alignment of values and expectations with your JV partner
  • Begin to understand and build the foundations for a JV partnership through good governance
